You could be forgiven for thinking that The Surf Nomad is a bit down on the whole Pro Surfing scene. It isn’t that we don’t think the pros rip because they obviously do. It is just the way that competitive surfing has changed the spirit of surfing as a whole that sometimes makes us cringe a little.
This clip is from the 1984 OP Pro and to us at TSN it typifies what we see as the end of the era of the soul surfer. Don’t get us wrong, we love bikini girls as much as the next guy but check it out for yourself and you will have to admit it is an embarrassing dog and pony show. Anyway, if you can pick out the good bits between the frizzed up tarts in bikinis and Ian Cairns’ caricature of a sports commentator, there is some nice footage in there of Cheyne and Tommy Curran bringing some old school slashing to the table.
