We’re Celebrating 100 years of Surfing in Australia today it’s officially Duke Day
100 years ago a humble and handsome Hawaiian swimmer came to Australia following his medal winning performance in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. When he was here he gave swimming exhibitions and shaped the first ever surfboard in the country and revealed to an astonished public the marvel that is surfing.
Today we pay tribute to the great man without whom The Surf Nomad and indeed surfing outside of the Hawaiian Islands may never have existed.
The following video playlist contains a video with the story of Dukes original visit to Australia and also shows Duke surfing on his home turf of Waikiki.
Thanks for eveything
